[Account safety] How do I spot a scam?

Para sa Taglish version ng article, basahin dito.

Spotting scams

Scams are usually recognizable by:

  • Non-Shopee links that request personal and sensitive account information such as one-time passwords (OTPs) or account passwords

  • Poor spelling and grammar

Here are some common reasons that impersonators of Shopee staff use:

  • Claims that you have won prizes

  • Claims that something went wrong with your account/order

They may then get you to do one of the following:

  • Share your OTP/ account password/ShopeePay PIN number

  • Share your personal data such as your date of birth which customer service agents may use to verify a buyer's identity

  • Make payment via ShopeePay to a number they provide

You should always ignore, or report such cases as Shopee will never ask for these details via unofficial platforms. Furthermore, Shopee will never ask for your passwords and PIN numbers.

Shopee will only contact you via official channels, such as the Shopee App, our verified social media accounts, or email addresses that end with shopee.com.

Reporting scams

If you have submitted any account or personal information to suspicious third parties, you should immediately report it to Shopee Customer Service.

In the meanwhile, change your account password and ShopeePay PIN number immediately via the Shopee App.
