[Account Safety] What are Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) verification methods?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) verification methods serve as an added layer of security to protect your Shopee account from unauthorized actions.

 

For example, you may be asked to verify your identity through 2FA verification methods when taking important actions such as logging in, changing passwords, and adding bank account information.


Here are the 6 types of 2FA verification methods that you may come across:

 

1. Face verification 

To authenticate via face verification successfully, ensure that:

  • You are in a well-lit environment (not too dark or bright)

  • You do not move so that the camera can focus on your face properly (avoid blurriness) 

  • You remove anything that blocks your face (e.g. masks, sunglasses)

  • You follow the prompts given during the verification process (e.g. blink eyes, turn head, nod, open mouth)

⚠️ Note

Verify your ShopeePay to enable the face verification 2FA method.



2. QR code

To verify using a QR code, open the Shopee App's QR scanner on the homepage and scan the code. If the QR code expires after 10 minutes, refresh to generate a new one.

⚠️ Note

If the QR code is on your phone, scan it with another phone logged into your Shopee account.



3. Authentication link

To verify, select the authentication link sent to your registered email or phone. You'll be directed to a page to approve or deny the action (e.g., a new login attempt). If you didn't receive the link, you can request a new one after 60 seconds.

4. One-Time Password (OTP)

To verify, enter the 6-digit verification code sent to your registered email or phone. You can resend a new code after 60 seconds if needed.


⚠️ Note

Never share your OTP with anyone, even Shopee staff.



5. Password

Your password can be used for verification, but there's a daily limit on how many times you can do this.


6. ShopeePay PIN 

Your ShopeePay PIN can be used for verification. If you enter the wrong PIN too many times, your wallet may be temporarily disabled for 30 minutes. Repeated incorrect attempts may freeze your account. For help, contact Shopee Customer Service.

⚠️ Note

If a system error occurs or you've reached the 2FA attempt limit, you can:

· Try again in 15 minutes.

· Contact Shopee Customer Service for further help.
