Ways to Spot Scams and Protect Yourself
Scams often have these warning signs:
Suspicious links that ask for personal or sensitive information, such as your OTP, account password, credit card CVV/expiry date, or ShopeePay PIN
Poor spelling and grammar in messages, emails, or websites
Too-good-to-be-true offers, such as unrealistically low prices or vague reward promises
Impersonation of Shopee staff, including:
Fake texts or pop-ups claiming you've won a prize
Messages about account issues asking for your OTP, password, or ShopeePay PIN
Requests to send money or make ShopeePay payments to a specific account or number
Fake calls from people pretending to be Shopee Customer Service, asking for personal information or payment
Requests for remote access to your device to "fix" an issue
Calls or messages from unknown numbers claiming to be from Shopee or its courier partners
⚠️ Note Shopee will never ask you to send money outside the Shopee platform or through unauthorized payment channels. |

Scan for malware regularly | Keep your device secure by scanning for potential malware. |
Stick to official channels | Only trust messages from official Shopee channels, such as emails with the @shopee.com domain or verified social media accounts. |
Stay on Shopee for transactions | Avoid dealing with sellers who direct you to complete transactions outside of Shopee. |
Spot fake websites | Watch for misspellings and typos that can indicate fraudulent sites. |
Double-check your orders | Always check the details of your current transactions, especially for Cash on Delivery orders, before receiving an order. Do not accept orders you did not place, regardless of whether they are claimed to have already been paid. |

Different Types of Scams and how to avoid them
QR Scams
Some scammers posing as Shopee sellers may ask you to pay outside the Shopee app by offering discounts or claiming they need to cancel your order. They may then contact you through messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp or Viber) and send a fake ShopeePay QR code for payment. Once you pay, the scammer disappears without fulfilling your order.
To protect yourself: Never accept offers or make payments outside the Shopee app, including via QR codes. Always complete your transactions within the Shopee app, and report any seller who asks you to pay through other channels.

Cash-On-Delivery (COD) Scams
Scammers may send parcels you didn't order or items that don't match your purchase and collect payment upon delivery. In some cases, packages from different sellers are bundled and delivered, with the payment going back to the sender.
To protect yourself: Make sure to always verify the parcel before paying. If you're unsure, check your My Purchases history and inform anyone receiving parcels on your behalf about your expected deliveries.
Parcel Scams
Scammers may claim there's an issue with your parcel, such as an incorrect weight, and ask you to pay an additional shipping fee outside the Shopee app. They may promise to refund the original fee, but disappear after receiving your payment.
To protect yourself: Never make payments outside the Shopee app. If you're unsure, contact Shopee Customer Service before taking any action.

Lucky Draw Scams
Scammers may send messages claiming you've won a prize and ask for personal or financial information, such as your OTP, contact number, or credit card details, to claim it. Shopee will never request this information for prizes or promotions.
To protect yourself: Never share your personal or financial information. Verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent Shopee, monitor your card transactions regularly, and rely only on announcements made through Shopee's official channels.

Part-Time Job Scams
Scammers may contact you through Viber, WhatsApp, Facebook, or Instagram, claiming to offer part-time jobs with Shopee or saying you've been selected to earn extra income. They may ask for an upfront payment or deposit and promise high returns. Some may even refund small amounts at first to gain your trust before asking for larger payments.
To protect yourself: Shopee does not recruit through messaging apps and does not have a role called "Online Purchasing Agent." Shopee will never ask for advance payments or deposits as part of a job application. If you're interested in joining Shopee, apply only through the Shopee Careers page.
⚠️ Note Scammers may use spoofed sender names or headers to make their messages appear as if they're from Shopee. Always verify the source before responding. |

Complete Order Scams
Scammers may promise profits if you transfer money for them to invest or ask you to release payment early so they can resell the items on your behalf.
They may also ask you to tap Order Received before your parcel arrives. Doing so releases your payment to the seller and may prevent you from requesting a return or refund.
To protect yourself: Only select Order Received after you've received and verified your order. Never engage in non-shopping transactions, such as investment or resale schemes, through Shopee.
Impersonation Scams
Scammers may pretend to be Shopee employees, courier personnel, or representatives of other organizations to steal your money or personal information. Common scenarios include:
Fake courier or Shopee calls, emails, or text messages asking for personal information or payment to release your parcel.
Fake job offers claiming to be from Shopee, where you're asked to pay for a "task package" after completing a survey or being offered a high-paying role.
To protect yourself: Track your orders only through the Shopee app. Shopee will never ask for advance payments for jobs or request payments to release a parcel. Always verify information through Shopee's official channels.
⚠️ Note Shopee will never ask for your credit or debit card details for verification. If someone claiming to be from Shopee requests this information, end the call immediately and do not share your personal data. |

Scammers may ask you to:
Share your OTP, account password, or ShopeePay PIN
Share personal information (e.g., your date of birth)
Send money or make a payment to their account
Click suspicious links that redirect to third-party websites
Urgently transfer or release payment to them

Always verify the legitimacy of messages before transferring money or sharing personal information. Ignore and report suspicious messages, as Shopee will never ask for your OTP, password, ShopeePay PIN, or other sensitive information through unofficial channels. Learn more about Shopee Mall.
